Historic Amman and the desert castles

After breakfast, departure in the direction of the east of Amman, where the "Desert Castles" (or Qasr) are located, which are in fact the remains of ancient residences of Umayyad caliphs from the beginning of Arab-Muslim civilisation (late 7th - early 8th century). From Amman to Azraq, there are three of them,

some of them truly remarkable. Scattered across the black basalt desert, these castles are an example of the early flourishing of Arab-Islamic civilisation. These isolated pavilions were resting places for caravans, but they were also secondary residences, with baths and hunting lodges. Most often built under the Umayyads (661-750), the Arab Muslims succeeded in transforming fringes of the desert into well-watered settlements, with castles considered to be the most spectacular and original monuments of early Islamic art. Then back to ancient Amman, once known as Philadelphia, one of the cities of the Roman Decapolis. Here you can discover its theatres, colonnades, the Temple of Hercules, the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Traditions and the Museum of Folk

After breakfast, departure for a visit to Jerash or Gerasa, undoubtedly one of the best preserved Roman cities in the Near East. After Petra, Jerash is Jordan's second biggest tourist destination. Our local guide will take you on a tour of Jerash. Then on to Ajloun. Um Sameer lives in the north of Jordan (Ajloun),

in a small village where around 2,500 people currently live. His family home overlooks the magnificent, lush mountains of the valley, in an area known by the locals as a veritable destination for connecting with nature and contemplating Roman ruins. With her warm and friendly presence, Um Sameer and her family will show you around her farm and give you the opportunity to take part in the local crafts she makes at home, such as basket weaving, goat milking and bread making. Afterwards, Um Sameer will offer you a traditional lunch served with bread freshly baked on the farm as well as small plates of olives in brine, apricot jam and other homemade local foods. Return to the hotel in Amman.

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for a full-day visit of Petra. The pink city "Petra", "the stone" in Greek.  The eighth wonder of the world and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.  You will cross the Siq, a long, narrow fault caused by a prehistoric earthquake. At the end of the Siq, the most majestic monument in Petra, "Al Khazneh" or the "Treasure", with its Greco-Roman decoration, suddenly appears. What a dazzlingly beautiful sight... Beyond the Treasury, there are hundreds of sculpted buildings, temples, royal tombs, houses, burial chambers, banqueting halls, baths, monumental staircases, arched doorways, cobbled streets and, above all, the Roman Theatre with its 3,000 seats.  You will cross the Roman Cardo and visit the Qasr El Bint, the only temple still standing and in a good state of conservation.
